2017 Year in Review
As 2017 draws to a close, we reflect on the ways the Manhattan College family has connected this year.
Each year, our Jaspers set new goals: ace the class; win the award; earn the diploma; pursue the profession. The ambition of our community is great and their achievements many, and yet we’re just as proud of the way our students, alumni, faculty and administrators take the time to connect and invest in one another.
So as 2017 draws to a close, we reflect on the ways the Manhattan College family has connected this year: though smiles, waves, handshakes, hugs, words and even silence, together, in prayer and reflection.
These are the moments that define our community:

The College community honored the achievements of Stephen J. Squeri ’81, ’86 (MBA), now CEO of American Express Company, with the 2017 De La Salle Medal at the Waldorf Astoria.

Jaspers united in an effort to support survivors and raise awareness of sexual violence at the annual Take Back the Night event.

Jaspers engaged in one-on-one conversations with the donors behind their scholarship at the annual Scholarship Dinner.

The campus community celebrated the work of three photographers who belong to African American fraternities at the Photo Greeks exhibit in the Multicultural Center.

A team of civil engineering majors shared a laugh while racing to complete one of several timed challenges during Battle of the Brains, an annual favorite among students from our four engineering disciplines.

Jaspers enjoyed a barbecue and carnival on the quad before the big Spring Concert featuring Shaggy.

Valedictorian John Evans ’17 inspired the entire Manhattan College community with an unforgettable speech about overcoming the loss of his vision.

After months of analyzing a dataset to develop solutions, Christopher Sandoli ’17 proudly presents his team’s poster to President O’Donnell during phase one of the College’s annual Business Analytics Conference and Competition.

Students explored professional opportunities and created contacts with potential employers at one of our four annual career fair events.

Students shared the results of their funded summer research with faculty to fellow students, professors and administration at the annual Summer Research Presentation event.

Muslim students gathered together in prayer with our Muslim chaplain Samer Alraey as part of a town hall focused on answering questions about Islam, Muslims and encourage empathy and understanding across religious beliefs.

Before stepping off onto Fifth Avenue, student marchers commemorated being a part of the world’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Kappa Delta Pi students read with children from local elementary schools to celebrate literacy.

The Model UN team took a moment to soak in their Distinguished Delegation award at the National Model UN - NY Conference. Advisor Pamela Chasek also gave the closing remarks on behalf of the NMUN Board of Directors in the UN General Assembly Hall celebrating her 25th year at the UN as Co-Founder and Executive Editor of the Earth Negotiations Bulletin.

Our Sikh students taught our campus community how to tie turbans and answered questions about their cultural significance.

Students took a break from end-of-year stress to connect with puppy snuggles during Beta Beta Beta’s annual Puppy fundraiser -- a new campus favorite.

Golden Jaspers paused the party to wave at a passing sailboat on the New York Harbor during a Reunion dinner cruise.

Fr. Thomas Franks, our new campus chaplain, celebrated the first mass of the 2017-2018 academic year.

Four decades of female engineering alumni shared a range of experiences with current students during an alumni panel organized by Society of Women Engineers.

Students and their families connected with the animal kingdom with a trip to the Bronx Zoo during Family weekend.

The Manhattan community recognized a group of more than 50 Manhattan College alumni for their contributions to the planning, design and construction of the New NY Bridge and the high quality measures of health and safety for workers on the project.

Our student veterans celebrated the opening of our Veterans Success Center on campus.

Men’s soccer celebrated 50 years of the program -- and a great season.

Engineering alums reimagined a past campus tradition -- and celebrated the 125th Anniversary of the School of Engineering -- at the Engineers’ Ball.
